Western Erie Canal
At mile marker 200 the Erie begins the western section of the Canal. The western section of the canal is full of small towns that all offer great opportunities to the Canal visitor. Towns like Lyons, Fairport, Palmyra, and ending with Tonawanda at mile marker 362, or head another 12 miles to Buffalo the beginning of the original Canal and the only inland Naval Museum within the country.
A trip on the western Erie can last a week or an entire season, there are just too many great places to stay and things to do. Because the Western Erie re-traces much of the original route it passes through many communities that owe their existence to the creation of the Erie 200 years ago.
Visit the community pages, located throughout the site and take the time to learn about not only the history, but the current day opportunities available to a Canal Travelor.
